The Forststeig Elbe Sandstone
The Forststeig Elbe Sandstone has been developed by Saxony Forestry Services together with Lesy České republiky and many other partners gradually since 2012, and was opened in April 2018.
It is a challenging, multi-day hiking route for trained, sure-footed and properly equipped hikers.
Mostly on forest paths and trails, as well as logging trails, the route passes through remote landscapes on the left side of the Elbe River, in Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland.
It is characterised by spacious, connected forests, unique rock formations and mighty mesas.
During the months of April to October, visitors can hike the hiking route through the forests along the German-Czech border region in 7 days, and stay overnight in trekking huts on the German side and in bivouac spots provided by Saxony Forestry Services and tourism partners.
There is a public campground on route in the Czech Republic.
